Course Overview
Course Introduction
The pre-existence of Christ is a foundational doctrine within Christian theology, underscoring the eternal nature and divinity of Jesus. This concept asserts that Christ existed before His physical birth, long before His incarnation in Bethlehem. The doctrine reveals Christ’s divine role in creation, His relationship with God the Father, and His purpose in the salvation of humanity.
Throughout scripture, we encounter significant biblical evidence that points to the pre-incarnate existence of Christ. In the Gospel of John, Christ is identified as the “Word” that was with God and was God from the beginning of time (John 1:1). This highlights His eternal existence and divine nature. Furthermore, Paul’s writings in Colossians 1:16-17 describe Christ as the agent of creation through whom all things were made, reinforcing His pre-existent role.
This course will guide learners through an in-depth exploration of the biblical references supporting Christ’s pre-existence, while also diving into the theological implications of this doctrine. We’ll analyze key scriptures, examine historical perspectives from church teachings, and consider how the doctrine influences other essential beliefs such as the Trinity and the nature of God.
By engaging with the material, students will not only gain a clearer understanding of Christ’s eternal presence but also reflect on how this profound truth impacts Christian faith and practice today.
